  • Xangaversary

Saturday was my 8 year Xangaversary.  Knowing this sort of makes me feel old since I remember signing up for X right before being a senior in college...8 years ago. The other day I realized I've lived in my current apartment for 6 years. That is 1.5 times the duration of college. Craziness. Then I was reminded yesterday of my first (not current) apartment in NYC and how insane that place was. Fun times. I lived in a room that I couldn't stand up straight in. I called it my hobbit hole. It was like the 7 and 1/2th floor in Being John Malkovich kinda. A lofted area off the living room with a quarter bath (it was a half-bath, but sooo small that I called it my 1/4 bath) up there. No windows. No doors. Crazy arguing roommates who at first were engaged, then they weren't anymore. Some struggling actors and all this next door to Rocco's illegitimate child (lived in the apt next door). Now however the arguing roommies are married with two kids and the actors moved our of the city.. true story.

My sister had a bit of a hard time getting to NYC on Friday. She had a layover in Philly but after sitting on the tarmac for 2+ hours the plane was taken back to the gate and eventually the flight was canceled. My sister ended up flirting her luggage off the plane (people were told they could get their luggage at La Guardia in NYC on Sunday however she found a guy who said he'd go get her bag for her.. and did) and then taking the train from PHL to NYC. By the time she arrived in New York is was still pouring rain (with crazy lightning as well) and it was late, so we just went back to my place and drove up to Boston on Saturday morning instead.

On Saturday we had lunch with g'ma and then dinner with our aunt, uncle, g'ma and cousin at a Mexican place. Fun times! Sunday morning my aunt made a delicious brunch. In case you think we just ate the whole time.. um.. we kinda did. haha. Nah, we also saw my grandmother's new apartment, helped buy her some stools for her kitchen breakfast bar as well as moved some plants from my aunt's place to her new apt. I got a few plants in the process as well. I hope they don't die (my current apartment has northern exposure--not great for plants). I met up with a friend from high school for coffee before heading back NYC on Sunday as well. The drive back was fairly uneventful. My sister, cousin and I drove back..mostly through the rain, doing various errands along the way. It took a while but we made it safe and sound.

I just had lunch with my sister and cousin and now they're off to go walk around the city and do some shopping while i'm stuck at work with grumpy stressed people who are today especially getting on my nerves. Happy Monday everyone! On the bright side, i'll meet up with the girls after work and the fun will ensue.

  • Sounds like you're having a great time with your sister around!!  Happy Monday :)

  • Happy Monday to you, too!

I just hate it when something goes wrong with your flight. Last time I went to California, there already were two stop-overs as it was. (Yes, we stupidly opted for the cheapest connection.) We went from Munich to Amsterdam and were supposed to go to Detroit from there and then on to San Diego. However, at Schiphol they told us they were one pilot short and therefore were going to have another stop in Boston - where we were sitting on the tarmac for over an hour, which of course made us late in Detroit and we had to rush through customs in order to make the connecting flight. Glad your sister made it to NY after all.

  • Congrats! Not too many people have been around Xanga for that long. I hit my big 8 in June.

  • ugh, i just did the math and it'll be 9 years in oct.  my old abandoned site for four years, and my current one for 5.  i wish i still had all my old entries, but i deleted them during an existential crisis in 2004.  :(  if i posted some of those old ones from my years in FL that would surely bring the LOLs.

  • @RizzlGrizzl - You lived in FL?!?

  • ya, just for a year when i was 22-23.  that's actually when i started blogging.

  • @RizzlGrizzl - huh. who knew?!  learn something new every day LOL

  • 8 years... wow.... I've been on here somewhere around 7 I guess. I've had some of those interesting passage of time thoughts lately too... I'm 6 years into a mortgage. Beat that lol
