I've noticed that my vision is off. Usually toward the end of the day, but mostly when I look at the laptop monitor (I use two monitor's at the office. One large one in front of me and the laptop screen which is to the left, is lower, and set further back). I tend to have work stuff open on the main screen and xanga/facebook/gmail open on the laptop screen. Lately toward the end of the day my vision gets blurry and I no longer can easily and quickly see whether something is an 8 or a 6 on the laptop screen. Reading requires more concentration than usual and I find myself squinting. I have always had great vision so this is beyond annoying to me.
I do not have insurance for vision. My company doesn't provide it. I called the eye doctor who i saw in 2005 (i had a pressure issue for a day or two back then so i had my eyes checked out) to ask what an eye exam would cost. I was told $175. Now here's what I'm wondering. Does it make sense to pay $175 and see a doc, or should I start off by going to Lenscrafters or Pearl and see what they say? They do eye exams as well, right? I suspect I will need computer glasses. Last night when I was trying to decipher whether the blurriness was only at the desk, or also out on the street or when watching TV I started realizing how much of my life is spent looking at screens. It is terrible! At work from 8.30-6:30 i'm behind 2 screens, when away from my desk my Blackberry basically is my 11th finger and then when i'm home generally the TV is on or i'm behind a computer/iPad. Is it strange that now that I realized this, I sort of hate it?
Back in 2005 when I got my eyes tested I was told that i am .25 far sighted in one eye and I have perfect vision in the other. I liked this because this meant I could spot what number bus or which subway was arriving before other people.. and the far sightedness was so minimal that I didn't need glasses. Anyhow, I need to get an eye exam now pronto. Not having good eye sight is not something I will settle for. Sorry if I sound like a princess here.. but i've dealt with enough teeth issues throughout my life that not having glasses was only fair karma wise

Google Chrome keeps crashing on me. I have been using Firefox instead but am disappointed in Chrome. I want it to work the way it used to but am lazy as far as un- and re-installing it. I wish for Chrome not to suck! LOL.
In other news, I HATE timestampers on Xanga. I think I will unsub to them all. I keep missing posts because I think in my sub list that I got to the last one read, but then later realize it was just a post that was re-time-stamped and I missed people's updates. Silly attention (aka comment) seekers!
Did anyone see the RHOBH episode? What was WRONG with Kim at the Kings game? I wanted to smack her. I usually like her but that was just insane. Adrienne has a lot of patience! Also, Lisa was so rude to Taylor at the charity event, but why didn't Taylor just say: "thank you for your concern. This isn't the place to discuss this. I am here for Kyle and want to have a good time"? As for the Brandi introduction.. i don't like bullies or mean girls, but seriously, who DOES wear a cast with a heel (wedge or stiletto)?
I've been thinking of dumping the contents of one of my savings accounts into a CD account. The highest interest I see currently is 1.5% with a credit union for 12 or 18 months. Is it worth approx $150 to open this account and keep track of when the terms are up and stuff? Not to mention I've never heard of this credit union? Hrrm, i'll let that one percolate too.
No reply from my CL bed person... yet. Fingers are still crossed!
To the jews among us, Happy New Year or Shana Tova!

Update: I have an eye exam for $135 at Lenscrafters at 5PM today. If I end up needing glasses they'll give a 30% discount as well as the fact that my health insurance is partnered with them so glasses would be cheaper. We'll see what I need.. there was a $75 basic exam and a $135 intensive one. When I told the guy I was seeing blurry he insisted I get the $135 exam. i'm getting my retina scanned, y'all. LOL. Lets uncross the bed fingers and cross the eye sight fingers for now, kay?

I don't have vision insurance, either. I Groupon'd my last exam/glasses and contacts! I think I got all 3 for $150. I haven't seen any other offers since from that place but that's my tip, maybe you'll luck out? Lenscrafters was always too expensive for me.
Hello - I'm skanickadee aka Mary Beth aka mb. I think you saw me at Coffeebee's site.
I think for the eye thing, if you know you have some sort of serious eye issue an optometrist would not be your first choice but for vision lose due to aging an optometrist is fine. Good luck with the exam!
I haven't tried Chrome yet. I am pretty happy with Firefox. My sons use Chrome and seem to really like it.
Have a good afternoon!
My husband has had perfect vision his entire life, but has been using the computer at work more and more, which is causing eye strain. He went to my optometrist two years ago and his problem was solved with reading glasses, which he wears anytime he's at his computer or reading a book. No more headaches or blurry vision (it sounds like what you described). I have been using Target Optical for all my eye care. I've been wearing glasses or contacts since 5th grade (I'm 35 now) and I have found them to give me the best service. I go mainly for my doctor, but their costs are reasonable. I think I get my full eye exam, glaucoma screening, dilation if needed and everything for $50 (that's with no insurance). I buy my glasses through them for a very reasonable price, and I buy my contacts online through Coastal Contacts.
Also, I've been using Chrome for over a year now. It's my absolute first choice (I seem to migrate toward all things Google these days). The only problem I have is that I can't seem to attach documents to a Google email, which baffles me and makes me pretty mad.
Let us know how the retina scan goes!!
I got bad bad bad eyesight. neg. 3.5, bah! I do find my way around the house w/o glasses or contacts but it gives me a headache.
*fingerscrossedagain*
See if you can also get a AAA discount if you have AAA. Some places give that as well.
i had good vision until about ten years ago. my vision is slightly off and i do have to wear prescription eye glasses, but i only wear them when i have to drive or when i have to read tiny print from far away (i can read tiny print on a paper in front of me without glasses). i really can't wear them for very long when i'm not driving because they hurt my eyes and my head. my vision got slightly off because i was looking at my computer screen at home in the dark a lot which was the only thing that i could think of on why my vision wasn't as good as it used to be.
I'm glad you decided to get your eyes checked out and that you found somewhere cheaper. You'll have to let us know how that works out for you!
