  • You know your life is sad when a highlight of the evening is discovering a new comfy spot on the couch. That said, now that my mom's paintings are nicely framed and up on the wall, i'm loving the new sofa and the living room. I'd heart-dot that i if I could . L-i with heart-v-i with heart-ng room. I = dork.

Oh, in case you're wondering.. the new bedroom, bed and mattress are wonderful as well. I my apartment.

Let's see, last Friday I went to see the Nerdist Podcast Live with Chris Hardwick, Matt Mira, Jonah Ray and special guest Jim Gaffigan. See I AM a dork. Actually, I'd never heard of any of them really (other than the singled out host) but I really enjoyed it! I laughed a lot and am glad my friend invited me along. The venue was cool and good times were had. Next week i'm going to see a friend's show called Shakesbeer. Should be fun as well (and if not, well.. it includes 3 drinks).

On Friday i'm flying down to Richmond, VA for the weekend to hang out with mah bestie. I'm looking forward to it muchly! Anyone have any tips for what to do in Richmond? I was born there so you'd think i'd know, right? Meh, i'm not worried as I know bestie & I will have fun no matter what. Frankly, I think the last time we hung out just us was somewhere back in June.. we have some catching up to do. Since I was born in Richmond there are some family friends in the area. Not sure whether to notify them or not.. for now i'm going with not.

The TV here at work is on (as always, CNBC and mute) and the images of what is going on in Greece are outright awful! This is totally simplistic, but give 'em some Ouzo and stuffed grape leaves and lets party, no? Ok fine. Too easy. I actually live in a very Greek neighborhood. I was too sleepy this morning to notice anything but I wonder if there will be anything going on later.. of course my apartment is close enough to Athena Park that I can hear whatever is going on there from my bedroom when a mic is used. This annoys me to no end on a Sunday morning when there is terrible singing happening. I hope they don't protest the protest--throwing firebombs and firecrackers sounds scary!

This reminds me of something someone told me recently. The university system in Greece has a flaw. There are many University of Greece Schools and some are better than others. However, one may attend the one closest distance wise. So, say for example one lives in NYC (and all schools are

public), one could apply to CUNY City College and get accepted, and then physically live closer to Columbia and thus go there instead. Granted, it is in fact more like the difference between CUNY City College or Baruch and CUNY Queens College or Medgar Evers or UMass Amherst vs. UMass Lowell.. Anyhow, you see what i'm sayin'.

My dad ordered this book for me the other week and i'm ashamed to admit I haven't started reading it yet. Apparently it is quite funny and so I am sure I will enjoy it. Perhaps I will bring it with me to Richmond. It seems fine for airports.. I half-kid when I say this, but how pretentious am I reading this on the subway: "Were You Born on the Wrong Continent?: How the European Model Can Help You Get a Life" ?!?!? I told my dad it should have come with a dust jacket. LOL.

Speaking of pretentious.. on Friday at the Nerdist Podcast one guy was joking about those people who are too good for McDonalds.. and how everyone has a McD's in their life, whether it is the actual fast food establishment or US Weekly or something else that is considered a guilty pleasure or low class and yet addictive and delicious. I totally heard myself saying: "I haven't had McDonalds in a long time. I totally prefer Wendy's or Burger King if having fast food--which basically only happens on road trips" and yes people, I think i am pretntious at times. But heck, with two university professor parents, raised in Europe and bilingual.. it could be worse, right? I mean, I could not even WANT a book cover for my snotty 'i'm better than you' book. Ha!

In other news, I tried to watch the republican debate last night and then realized i'd rather tweeze every single hair on my head individually than watch those morons answer stupid questions with stupid answers. You'd be happy to know I did neither. Instead I watched Rachel Zoe pop out her baby Skyler and 90210 deal with another drug addiction and more unrequited love.  A different kind of stupidity.. but one that leaves me less angry. I can't watch people argue over 'illegals' just the word like that makes me cringe.

    Happy Hump Day, everybuddy!

  • Don't knock the couch.  It's been a week since I slept in my bed.  I keep falling asleep on my comfy couch.

  • "A different kind of stupidity.. but one that leaves me less angry."

    Amen!

  • We did actually watch the debate. We're Ron Paul fans... I have to say Newt was pretty funny and remarkably said interesting things from time to time, yet the media will focus on the Black Walnut and his 999 plan... grumble grumble grumble... I guess it doesn't make for good tv when you use soundbites that make people look GOOD instead of the stupid crap.
    Le sigh...
So now I'm trying to think of my McD's. I don't eat fast food... I might get a Subway sandwich every once in a while... I don't even own a tv and I'm picky about what I'll click on.  For a little while we watched that Wipeout show. That was kind of the fast food of entertainment I guess lol

  • I bet your apartment looks great!

I would have gone to the Nerdist Podcast thing. I love Chris Hardwick on Chelsea Lately.

  • heh.  I've heard of Nerdist before...  I wonder what that says about me?

I'm glad you're so happy with your apartment! I can't wait to get new furniture for this place but it isn't happening until the addition is finished.  *sighs*  We're always doing something to this place, arent' we?

  • Mando says that he thinks I was born in the wrong region.  He said I should been born in the south and grown up a southern girl.

I love all the trips you take.  I miss traveling. I hope to do it again some day.
